Deburring tool in your bore size

Order now

Burrs on bore edges and intersections cost sealing performance, assembly time and surface quality. The Flex-Hone® tool radiuses them in a drill chuck or CNC spindle – uniformly, repeatably and without raising a secondary burr.

  • Radiuses instead of cutting: no secondary burr, no downstream hand rework
  • Repeatable in series production – from the bench to a programmed CNC step
  • Grit 120 in stock in Germany – availability and dispatch date shown right on the product

Flex-Hone® for deburring – grit 120 from stock

Grit 120 silicon carbide is the deburring standard for steel and cast iron: enough cutting action for the burr, gentle on the bore wall. For aluminium, choose aluminum oxide (AO) via the tool finder.

Typical tool cost 0.15-0.60 € per deburred bore, without investing in machines or fixtures.

Sizing: order the nominal diameter of the bore being deburred – for cross-holes, the nominal size of the main bore.

Close-up of the abrasive globes of a Flex-Hone tool

The globe follows the edge.

Individually mounted abrasive globes reach what files and countersinks cannot see.

Why radiusing beats cutting

Cutting deburring tools – countersinks, blades, files – leave a new, smaller burr on the edge: the secondary burr. On sealing-critical or flow-critical parts, rework starts all over again.

The individually mounted abrasive globes of the Flex-Hone tool remove the burr abrasively and radius the edge in one pass. The result is a defined, burr-free radius – repeatable across the whole batch, regardless of who runs the tool.

Cross-holes: the special case with its own page

Burrs at internal cross-hole intersections are the hardest deburring case: invisible, hard to reach, critical for hydraulics and lubrication channels. The procedure – tool size based on the main bore, rotating through the intersection – is documented step by step on its own page.

Cross-hole deburring: the detail page →
Diagram: ball-style tool in the main bore deburring the cross-hole intersection
  1. Enter the main bore with the tool rotating – the direction of rotation stays constant.
  2. The burr sits at the intersection of main bore and cross-hole.
  3. The abrasive globes radius the edge as they pass – without machining the cross-hole itself.
  4. Stroke evenly across the intersection until the edge is burr-free.

Grit and material: the deburring matrix

Grit 120 is the standard for steel and cast iron; stubborn, thick burrs may start at 60-80, fine edges on precision parts at 180. For the abrasive, the material rule applies: silicon carbide for cast iron and steel, aluminum oxide for aluminium, brass and bronze – and the diamond version for hardened or coated bores above 50 HRC. Always work with oil; speed guide values: up to 12.7 mm at 1,000-1,200 rpm, up to 50 mm at 900-1,000.

Limits: what Flex-Hone® deburring is not

The tool radiuses edges and removes burrs – it is not a chamfering tool: if you need a defined 45° chamfer with a dimension, countersink first and radius afterwards. External, freely accessible burrs on flat faces are handled more economically by disc or cup brushes; the Flex-Hone domain is bores, tube ends and their intersections.

FAQ

Questions about tool, material and process

Does Flex-Hone deburring create a secondary burr?
No – that is the key advantage over cutting tools: the abrasive globes remove the burr abrasively and radius the edge instead of re-cutting it. The edge ends up burr-free by design.
Does deburring change the bore diameter?
Not measurably: material removal concentrates on the burr, the edge and roughness peaks. That is why the process is safe even in tight tolerance zones and on finish-machined bores.
How do I deburr cross-holes from the inside?
Choose the tool by the nominal size of the main bore, enter rotating and stroke evenly across the intersection. The step-by-step guide with diagrams is on the cross-hole deburring page.
Does it work as a programmed CNC step?
Yes – the tool runs in any spindle and is often programmed right after drilling: speed by diameter (up to 12.7 mm at 1,000-1,200 rpm, up to 50 mm at 900-1,000), and the machine coolant emulsion is sufficient lubrication.
Buying & advice

Terms, delivery and B2B handling

What does the deburring tool cost?
Standard sizes in grit 120 start at 15.60 € net; common sizes up to 25.4 mm stay under 24 €. One tool typically deburrs 50-200 bores depending on material and burr condition.
Do you ship from stock?
