The BC Flex-Hone 35 mm (1.375"), grit 320 AO for surface finishing and deburring is designed for bore sizes between 1.251" and 1.375" (31.78-34.92 mm). It has abrasive balls made of 320 grit aluminum oxide (AO). Excellent for aluminum, brass, bronze and softer non-ferrous materials. 240 AO is commonly used for devitrification of Nikasil cylinders. The 320 grit generally offers an Ra finish range of 18 - 30 microinches (.5 - .7 microns).

Diameter range:

Standard sizes from 4 mm to 914 mm for almost any application, from small precision work to machining large cylinders

Abrasive types:

Silicon carbide (SC): For standard materials such as mild steel, stainless steel and cast iron. Excellent for aggressive material processing and fast stock removal.

Aluminum oxide (AO):

Zirconium aluminum oxide (Z-grain): Especially for steels with a higher carbon content or for applications that require a longer service life.
Diamond: For particularly hard materials such as hardened tool steel, carbide and ceramics.

Grit options:

Flex-Hone® offers 14 grit options that can be selected depending on the desired surface finish:

Coarse grit (20 - 80): Ideal for intensive material removal and robust deburring
Medium (120 - 240): For standard surface finishes with a fine structure
Fine (320 - 600): Suitable for a smooth and precise finish
Ultra-fine (800): For high-precision work and extremely smooth surfaces

Recommended application parameters

Speed: The optimum speed depends on the tool diameter and ranges from 60 to 1,200 rpm. Larger tools work at lower speeds, while finer grit sizes require higher speeds
Lubricants: The use of Flex-Hone® oil or a light motor oil is recommended for a long service life and an even surface. Lubricants reduce heat development and prevent sanding particles from sticking together.
